UK Olympic Chief Backs UU Sports Initiative

8th December 2006

The British Olympic Association Chairman Lord Moynihan this week praised the University of Ulster’s sporting facilities as “world class”.

Lord Moynihan’s comments came as the University launched its new Sports Academy.

“I couldn’t be more delighted to send my best wishes, and to do it from having spent time here, seen the facilities, and come away with the feeling that you have really got something of a world-class standard,” the Olympic chief said.

“First and foremost the University of Ulster has been the initiative behind driving what is an outstanding facility in one of the largest universities in the UK – unique, outstanding facilities, and it would seem this morning that we have moved around to a level which is the highest standard that you’ll find anywhere in the UK – so internationally competitive standard,” Lord Moynihan said.

Guest star at the launch was Irish international rugby hero David Humphreys, who lent his support to the University’s drive to become the leading university for sport on the island of Ireland.
