UU Presents The Fairy’s Tale
Families looking for a quirky alternative to traditional Christmas pantomime should snap up a ticket for The Fairy’s Tale – a new piece of seasonal dance theatre presented by professional dance company Assault Events, in association with the University of Ulster.
The Fairy’s Tale is an enchanting, comical dance theatre entertainment that tells the story of a bad tempered dad who crosses the toughest Christmas Fairy of them all. The new work, created with family audiences in mind, is the creation of Sandie Fisher, UU Dance Artist-in-Residence.Sandie said: “The challenge for us was to create an original piece of dance theatre that would appeal to all age groups. We hope that children and their parents, including those who’ve never been to a contemporary dance performance before, will enjoy the freshness of this entertaining and magical seasonal story, which the performers tell through movement, dance and live music.”
The performances will also feature work created during an outreach programme, supported by Bank of Ireland, with dance students from St Cecilia’s College, Derry, St Louise’s College, Belfast and the University of Ulster.
Eugene Kearney, Senior Manager at Bank of Ireland said: “Bank of Ireland has a long history of supporting education and the arts. Through our support of the University’s dance outreach programme we are playing a part in developing young creative talent which we hope will be of long-term benefit to local communities.”
Performances take place at 8pm on Monday 18 December 2006 in The Old Museum Arts Centre, Belfast and on Tuesday 19 December 2006 in The Waterside Theatre, Glendermott Road, Derry City.
