CAPTION: Lisa McQuilkin, John McGuiggan and Richard Mitchell


The success of students on the BSc Hons Retail, Marketing and Customer Services Management has been recognised at a special award ceremony on the Coleraine campus. 

Lisa McQuilkin, John McGuiggan and Richard Mitchell received certificates for outstanding performance in their respective year groups during 2005/2006. 

Tony Kerley, Manager for Northern Ireland for Skillsmart Retail, who sponsored the awards said:  “Skillsmart Retail is delighted to award these prizes once again this year and celebrate the achievements of these top performing students. Lisa, John and Ricky will be great ambassadors for the University as they start out in their careers.” 

Lisa was recognised for an outstanding performance during her first year on the BSc Hons Retail, Marketing and Customer Services Management course.   

This is the second time John has won the award, on this occasion for his achievements in second year.  

John, who is currently on placement with Intel, said: “The award definitely gives you a competitive advantage when applying for jobs.  The fact that it is recognition by an external body helps potential employers understand the importance of the award and I believe it was a key factor in securing my placement position this year.” 

Ricky has also collected the award on two occasions - in his first year and again based on his performance in the final year.  Ricky graduated in July 2006 with a First Class honours degree and is now completing the MSc in Business Innovation.

Dr Grainne Byrne, Course Director BSc Hons Retail, Marketing and Customer Services Management added: “I would like to congratulate John, Lisa and Richard on their achievement and thank Skillsmart Retail for continuing to support the retail degree at the University’s Coleraine campus.”
