UU Teams Up With SAP

8th May 2007

The University of Ulster has teamed up with world class business software provider SAP to deliver a new series of PhD programmes in computer science.

The German firm, which has established a Campus Engineering Centre (CEC) at the Jordanstown campus, is focusing its research efforts  on

·       Business grid computing

·       Model-driven performance  engineering

·       Knowledge management

The postgraduate programme allows PhD students to carry on  their PhD studies in computer science in close collaboration with the  researchers at CEC Belfast, and offers positions for high-calibre placement  students to experience work in an applied research environment.

“ We are especially keen to hear from potential placement students, PhDs  students and post-doctorate researchers interested in a career at SAP  Research,” said SAP Lab Director Wolfgang Gerteis.

The SAP  Research Centre is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, and is part of SAP’s global technology research division, working to identify and shape emerging technology trends in collaboration with leading international universities and strategic partners.

It’s a new development in  partnership for the University, according to  Professor Bryan Scotney, Director of the University's Computer Science Research Institute at UU: “Such collaborative  PhDs with a world-leading industrial partner like SAP should  offer excellent opportunities for students to engage at the forefront of  technological research and for their work to have a real impact on commercial  system design and development”.
