Three UU students have won £500 each at the Terex Engineering Design Project Awards.

The University’s Faculty of Engineering teamed up with Terex Mineral Processing Division to offer final year students the chance to take part in an innovation competition.

Best Engineering Team for Innovation Excellence was won by Jeffrey Beattie from Portadown and Margaret-Mary Douglas from West Belfast while Mary Gormley from Claudy was named Best Engineer for Innovation Excellence.

Mark Allen, Terex Senior, designed the student project. This was a real time project with Terex hoping to use the winning designs in future development.

Mr Allen said:  “The level of talent shown, quality of work and effort put into the project submissions was extremely high.  I was really impressed by the innovation shown by these students. Whilst still at an academic level, many demonstrated true industrious talent.”
