Two Minds + One Design = Three Winners
4th June 2007

Winning students Caroline Smith, Adam Turtle and Robert Montgomery
A website designed by a group of second year University of Ulster students to promote a greater collaboration between architects and artists was officially launched today.
Students studying Interactive Multimedia Design (IMD were invited to submit ideas for an interactive website and branding for the Two Minds initiative, a collaborative project between the Royal Society of Ulster Architects and Arts and Business.
The competition was part of the 'Design Application' module coursework and the winning website was designed by Robert Montgomery, Caroline Smith and Adam Turtle.
Ian Fleming, IMD Subject Director who co-ordinates the Design Application module said the brief for the Two Minds Web Design Competition was a fantastic opportunity for students to blend academic theory with practical Design Application.
“The winning website was selected from an entry of 30 and because the overall standard was so high, the judges deliberated for hours before deciding on an eventual winner, every single one of the 30 entries had elements that deserved commendation,” he said.
“However, after consideration of the Two Minds branding; final web design; site promotion; and viral marketing elements, 12 groups were shortlisted and finally, Robert Montgomery, Caroline Smith and Adam Turtle’s group design - coming out as the eventual winner.” Mr Fleming placed on record his appreciation to all the students who took part.
“Everyone put so much effort into this project. I think that whether you’ve won or not, as you go out on your year’s Industrial Placement, you have all learned valuable lessons about team work and about pushing for that last 5% which makes your design stand out.”
The winning website was unveiled today in the Main Lecture Theatre, University of Ulster, Belfast.
