News Release

From Video Games to Love Match

4th July 2007

This is one year that graduand Anna McTear will never forget. For not only has she graduated with a BSc First Class Honours in Interactive Multi Media and Design today – but in August she is getting married.

Anna, from Jordanstown, Newtownabbey,  met her husband-to-be, Andre Stiegler, while on work placement during her studies at the University.

She spent a year at Streamline Studios in Amsterdam in 2005/6 as part of her course. “During the course I did 3-D modelling and enjoyed it immensely. It was then I decided that I wanted to go into developing video games and applied for a placement at Streamline Studios”, she said.

While at Streamline she met and fell in love with Andre, one of the project managers. The romance blossomed and the happy couple will get married at Belfast Castle on 18 August.

Anna’s graduation completes a remarkable hat-trick for the family. Her sisters Siobhan and Rachael also obtained First Class Honours degrees at the University. They are the daughters of Professor Michael McTear, Professor of Knowledge Engineering at the University’s School of Computing and Maths.

Siobhan who graduated in Computer Science in 1995 now runs her own software development company in Belfast and one of her employees is Rachael, who graduated in Interactive Multi Media & Design in 2006.

Anna (25) is putting her job hunting on hold until after her wedding. She admitted that completing her studies and planning her wedding made for a hectic last 12 months. “I was working most of the time and any free time I had was taken up going to wedding fairs and such like. Planning the wedding was eased by taking up the recommendations of my friends for things like the band and the DJ.”
