UU To Host Social Enterprise Conference
23rd August 2007

Dr Norry McBride
The University’s School of Business, Retail and Financial Services in collaboration with Business in the Community is set to host a conference for non-profit making organisations next month.
The conference is one element of the new Community Enterprise Development Programme, an initiative of Coleraine Borough Council, delivered by Business in the Community, in partnership with the University of Ulster and the Global Links initiative. The programme is part financed by the Coleraine Borough Strategic Partnership under the Peace II Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.
Dr Norry McBride, Conference Chairperson, says: “The voluntary and community sector mark a significant contribution to the economy of Northern Ireland. This conference will highlight the good business practice that already is in existence within the sector.“It is clearly vital that the focus of the Northern Ireland voluntary and community sectors remains on enlarging and expanding upon the enormous amount of good work that they have already done, and continue to do, for the people they represent and assist.
“But it is equally important for their survival and development that they adopt a thoroughly business-like approach to how they organise themselves, and to how they operate in practical and managerial terms.
“We hope this conference will begin to provide some of the breadth and depth of knowledge of their objectives – objectives with which we can all enthusiastically identify,” he said.
The conference will be addressed by academics, key funders, voluntary sector representatives and experts in the area of non-profit organisations.
Developing strategy and Vision for Social Enterprises in the 21st Century, will take place at the University’s Coleraine campus on Monday 10 September 2007.
