UU Hosts Signals and Systems Conference
12th September 2007
The University’s Magee campus is set to host the 2007 Irish Signals and Systems Conference this week.
Facilitated by the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems, the event will focus on communications, control, signal processing and intelligent systems engineering. ISSC addresses all aspects of signals and systems, including design, implementation, algorithms, modelling and performance. The conference will bring together over 100 academics from throughout Ireland and the UK.Professor Martin McGinnity, Director of the Intelligent Systems Research Centre, said: “It has been 10 years since Magee hosted the Irish Signals and Systems Conference, an event which coincided with the formation of our Intelligent Systems Research group on this campus. We have in many ways developed alongside the ISSC events and our numbers have now reached approximately 50 researchers on campus, with the recent research investment aiming to further increase our numbers to over 100 researchers.”
The conference is scheduled as a two-day event with two invited speakers: Professor Leslie Smith, University of Stirling and Dr Francisco Sepulveda, University of Essex. At the end of the conference attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Intelligent Systems Research Centre Laboratories to view demonstrations, and then enjoy a tour of the City Walls with Node Explorers.
Dr Liam Maguire, Head of School of Computing and Intelligent Systems, added: “The conference reflects the importance of research within the School and demonstrates the leading role that researchers from the School assume in intelligent systems research in Ireland.”
