Chemistry Week Begins With a Bang at Jordanstown

25th October 2007

The University of Ulster, in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), will present an explosive chemistry show to mark the beginning of RSC Chemistry Week.

RSC Chemistry Week 2007, which runs from 03 to 11 November, is a themed week of events held every two years to promote a positive image of chemistry and increase the public understanding of the importance of chemical science in our everyday lives.

As well as national events, activities are organised throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland by the RSC Local Sections.

The University of Ulster’s Jordanstown campus will host ‘The Wickedly Wet and Explosive Chemistry Show’, at 2pm on Saturday 03 November.

Event organiser, Dr Tony Byrne, a lecturer in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and Secretary to RSC’s NI Section Trust, said: “Master Splooze, Sue McGrath, our Science Magician, will wow you with the energy of fuels of the past and future.  This is not a show for the timid as it involves erupting volcanoes, vats of giant bubbles, buckets of oozy slime, colour changes and whizz bang explosions.”

This is an interactive and fun filled event for all of the family and lasts approximately one hour.  Admission is free but places are limited.

If you would like to come along and find out about the fun of chemistry contact:  Dr Tony Byrne, Secretary to NI Section Trust, Royal Society of Chemistry, 25B10 Nibec, University of Ulster at Jordanstown on:  028 90368941 or email: j.byrne@ulster.ac.uk.
