The University of Ulster Science Shop and Belfast’s new community radio station, Féile FM 103.2, have joined forces to provide an exciting opportunity for UU students.
After a tour of the station’s state-of-the-art facilities, the students were set a challenge: to produce a radio jingle to promote Féile an Phobail's Halloween Children’s festival which runs from 30 October to Friday 02 November.
This real time project challenged the students to demonstrate their skills in script writing, voice-over and production. The students will also develop a range of programmes over the next ten weeks for their course that will be aired by Féile FM 103.2.Emma Mullen, Station Manager, said: “Feile FM is an exciting new community radio station for Belfast with a diverse programme schedule. These programmes identified, developed and produced by the students will be a fantastic addition to the station’s programming over the next few months and something our listeners will enjoy. Féile FM has many opportunities for outreach work with Ulster and we are delighted to be working in partnership with the University of Ulster Science Shop.”
Claire Mulrone, Ulster's Science Shop Administrator, added: "The Science Shop is dedicated to finding ways for all University of Ulster students to engage in community-based projects, no matter what their academic discipline. This established partnership will provide future opportunities for all Media, Film and Journalism students.”The student’s Halloween Festival advertisement and programmes can be heard by tuning into Féile FM 103.2 in the Greater Belfast area or online at: www.feilefm.com. The advertisement is also available to download as a podcast on: www.feilefm.com.
