Distinguished Jeweller Visits the University of Ulster

7th November 2007


One of the world’s most distinguished contemporary jewellers will present a public lecture today as part of the University of Ulster’s Applied Art Masterclass Series.

Christoph Zellweger produces contemporary jewellery for exhibition as well as for manufacture. He is interested in the application of new technologies and his work strives to combine beauty and aesthetics in the creation of new forms. His work also takes him into interior design and larger scale work for public art. 

Zellweger was born in Germany in 1962 and now lives and works in Zürich. He received a Masters from the Royal College of Art in London and has worked as a freelance designer. His work can be seen in public collections throughout Europe. He currently holds the position of Professor in the Department of Metalwork and Jewellery in Sheffield Hallam University. He also teaches industrial design in the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Zürich, Switzerland.

The presentation will take place in the Ormeau Baths Gallery on Wednesday 07  November at 1.15pm. Admission is free.
