Distinguished Teaching Fellowship: Heather Farley

Mrs Heather Farley
Mrs Heather Farley, Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management in the School of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategy, has been awarded a Distinguished Teaching Fellowship.
A native of Co Armagh, Mrs Farley joined the University in 1992, as a Lecturer in Consumer Studies, and is presently Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator for the Faculty of Business and Management at Jordanstown.
Heather studied Home Economics at the University of Ulster, and completed her MBA in 1996.
Heather has been described as ‘a very committed teacher, with a wealth of experience and a continuing desire to make a difference’. Student engagement is at the heart of her work: she has taken group-based teaching activity to a new level, through innovations in group based assessment and peer-to-peer review techniques. These and other innovative activities have enabled students to engage in a more meaningful way with their subject, their tutor and with each other.
A Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Heather has also emerged as a change agent both within the Faculty and more widely across the University, leading by example in facilitating the adoption of many new initiatives including developing effective group practices and embedding a range of formative feedback methodologies to add further value to the student experience.
She is currently completing a Development Programme for Directors of Teaching & Learning with the Association of Business School in London, and is looking forward to further exploring new processes and issues affecting the student experience.
