Austrian Duo Set for Ulster’s Lunchtime Concert Series

31st October 2008

Florian Kitt will be joined by Rita Medjmorec

Two leading chamber musicians will visit the University of Ulster next week to perform an exhilarating programme of music for cello and piano as part of the Lunchtime Concert Series.

Cellist Florian Kitt will be joined by Rita Medjmorec on piano for lunchtime concerts in the Octagon, Coleraine campus on Monday 10th November and in the Great Hall, Magee campus on Tuesday 11th November.

The Austrian duo will perform Prokofiev’s powerful Sonata, Martinu’s entertaining Variations on a Theme by Rossini and a new work written especially for the duo by Anthony Payne.

Florian Kitt’s distinguished international career began in 1964. Over the last four decades he has appeared as a soloist with many leading orchestras, given solo recitals and made numerous recordings.   In addition to his extensive repertoire of established classic and romantic works, his feeling for contemporary music has inspired many major composers to dedicate works to him.  Recent concerto performances such as Ligeti’s Cello Concerto at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra have brought great critical acclaim.

Pianist Rita Medjimorec studied in Salzburg and has established an international reputation for her performances of chamber music and as an accompanist for lieder recitals. She performs regularly with Florian Kitt and also as a partner in a piano-duo with her husband Heinz Medjimorec.

Lunchtime concerts start at 1.15pm and tickets, priced £3, are available on the door.  For further information please contact the Cultural Development Office on: 028 7137 5658.
