Ulster Appoints New Director of Hydrogen Safety

Professor Vladimir Molkov

Professor Vladimir Molkov has been appointed Director of Hydrogen Safety at the University of Ulster.

Professor Molkov joined Ulster in 1999 as a Professor of Fire Safety Science in the School of the Built Environment. 

He previously headed up the Department of Fire Safety at the All-Russian Research Institution for Fire Protection and was a Fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science at the University of Tokyo.

Since joining the University of Ulster Professor Molkov has established the hydrogen safety programme and set up the world’s first postgraduate course in hydrogen safety. 

Professor Molkov said: “The Hydrogen Safety Research and Engineering Centre at the University of Ulster is proud to be a part of the European Network of Excellence - HySafe.

"The Centre plans to spread its international standing especially in relation to computational hydrogen safety and the co-ordination of the globally acclaimed European Summer School on Hydrogen Safety, hosted annually at the Jordanstown campus.”  

Professor Greg Lloyd, Head of the School of the Built Environment added: “I am very pleased that Professor Molkov has been appointed Director of Hydrogen Safety . He brings to the post a wealth of scholarly experience and achievement. His strategic vision for research in the hydrogen field will make a major contribution to our understanding of energy futures for the benefit of society at large.”
