Top Computing Students Recognised at Magee

Outstanding students from the University of Ulster’s School of Computing and Intelligent Systems have been recognised at a special award ceremony on the Magee campus.

The awards, which are sponsored by local businesses, aim to strengthen relationships between the University, students and industry. 

Speaking at the event Professor Maguire, Head of School of Computing and Intelligent Systems, said: “These prizes not only recognise the academic achievement of these students but they also emphasise the willingness of local companies to promote excellence in computing and electronics. 

"We are witnessing a high demand for our computing and engineering graduates as there are lots of opportunities both locally and nationally.  I wish these students well in their future careers”. 

The winners of this year’s annual School of Computing and Intelligent Systems awards are:

 
  • Asidua Award, Best Embedded System Project in Final Year BEng Electronics and Computer Systems: Paul Harkin from Derry.
 
  • Liberty IT Award, Best Performing Student in Year 1 BSc Hons Computer Science: Declan Traynor from Derry. Declan also won the McCrea Leebody Prize for Best Year 1 Computing Student in the Faculty
 
  • Schrader Electronics Award, Best Performing Student in Second Year BEng Electronics and Computer Systems: Karl McCreadie from Derry.
 
  • Schrader Electronics Award, Second Best Performing Student in Second Year BEng Electronics and Computer Systems: Rory McGarrigle from Moville, County Donegal
    
  • Nallatech Award, Best Final Year BEng Electronics and Computer Systems Student: Graeme McKeague from Culdaff, County Donegal.
  
  • NWIPP Designs Award, Best Final Year Student in BSc Hons Multimedia Computing and Design: Owen McAteer from Portstewart.
 
  • Kainos Award, Best Final Year Student in BSc Hons Computer Science: Martin Christian from Newtownabbey.
 
  • Lucid Interactive Award, Best Three Final Year Projects: Martin Christian, from Newtownabbey (first), Jennifer Hyndman, from Derry (second) and Marcella Gallacher, from Derry (third).
