Canadian Trad Band Set For Magee
11th November 2008
The Lunchtime Concert series at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus continues next week with a performance by one of Cape Breton’s most exciting new bands.
Bẹlach, a Gaelic word meaning lively youth, will perform an energetic mix of Cape Breton, Scottish and Irish tunes at their lunchtime performance in the Great Hall at 1.15pm on Tuesday 18 November.
The group, which features piano, pipes, whistles, guitar and fiddle, were formed following an impromptu session in 1999. They have gone on to play festivals across North America and Europe where they have thrilled audiences with their spirited performances and witty presentation.
The group are known for their unique interpretations of traditional Cape Breton tunes, taking the originals out of their usual fiddle/piano context and presenting them with the renewed energy of a young band.
Tickets for the lunchtime concert are available on the door. For further information contact the Cultural Development Office on: 028 7137 5658 or n.pearce@ulster.ac.uk
