Ulster Hosts First Equestrian Intervarsity
A group of final-year University of Ulster students are set to host the first ever show jumping intervarsity competition in Northern Ireland.
The Leisure, Events and Cultural Management students are organising the event to help raise the profile of the University’s Equestrian Club, based at the Coleraine campus. The competition, which takes place on Wednesday 19 November at Lessan’s Riding School, in Saintfield, County Down, will see University of Ulster students compete with Queen’s University students in the jump-off.
Event organiser, Meabh Cunningham, from south Belfast, said: “We have organised this competition as part of our management module on our Leisure, Events and Cultural Management degree. Our main aim is to help raise the profile of the Equestrian Club at Ulster’s Coleraine campus and hopefully set a precedent for this intervarsity competition to continue on an annual basis.“We also hope that the event will spark enough interest among other University of Ulster students to start up equestrian clubs at the other campuses. Currently only the top riders from the equestrian clubs get to compete in the annual All-Ireland competitions in February. This intervarsity competition is great opportunity for riders at all levels to get the opportunity to compete.”
