UK Recognition for Ulster Researchers

A team of University of Ulster lecturers have received an international award for their work in enterprise education.
The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship is the premier small business and entrepreneurship network for individuals and organisations involved with SME research and entrepreneurship education and support.
The team’s winning work, entitled ‘Rediscovering Enterprise’, explores entrepreneurship for undergraduates in Northern Ireland. The work questioned the appropriateness of modern day entrepreneurship education and examined what it might mean for the promoters and funders of entrepreneurship education and what might be the appropriate meaning for students, especially undergraduates."Originally entrepreneurship education was promoted primarily for economic development reasons, but learning to be entrepreneurial has proved to be beneficial to many students,” says Professor Bridge.
"However, there are different interpretations of enterprise and entrepreneurship education globally which motivated us to capture the experiences within Ulster. In particular, the work of NICENT has continually challenged the interpretation of entrepreneurship in the context of education, helping the University of Ulster to deliver the subject as ‘enterprise for life’ rather than being primarily concerned with new venture creation.”Few researchers have made a distinction between enterprise and entrepreneurship education and between different organisational models. The NICENT model is one of the few internationally recognised strategic integration models within the field.
