Ulster Choir Celebrates Advent

3rd December 2008

The University of Ulster Choir, under the direction of music lecturer Shaun Ryan, will celebrate the start of the advent season with two concerts next week in Belfast and Derry.

The 70-strong choir based at the Magee campus will travel to St Peter’s Cathedral, Falls Road, Belfast, for the first concert at 8.15pm on Tuesday 9th December followed by a concert in their home city at 8pm on Thursday 11th December in St Patrick’s Church, Buncrana Road, Derry.

The highly respected choir, made up of music students from the University of Ulster’s Magee campus and community members, will perform two expressive works based on the theme of light – Vivaldi’s Gloria and Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna.   For the Vivaldi, the choir will be joined by soloists, Aoife Miskelly and Mark Chambers.

Over the last five years the choir has gained considerable popular and critical acclaim for their distinctive and dramatic performances of choral music presented in beautiful ecclesiastical settings in various locations across Northern Ireland.

Admission to both concerts is free and everyone is welcome to attend.  Further information is available from the Cultural Development Office on: 028 7137 5658.
