Top Engineering Students Recognised at Ulster

Stephen McClelland, MD Schrader Electronics, Ciaran Watson, Timothy Spence and Professor Robin Clarke, Head of School, Engineering
Outstanding students from the University of Ulster’s School of Engineering have been recognised at a special award ceremony this week.
The awards, which are sponsored by leading manufacturing firm, Schrader Electronics, aim to strengthen relationships between the University, students and industry.
Speaking at the event Professor Robin Clarke, Head of the School of Engineering, said: “These prizes are a wonderful way of recognising some of the best up-and-coming young talent in the field of engineering.“Identifying these top students at the University of Ulster is also very important to Schrader who, as a forward looking company, recognise the difficulty in getting the right graduates into their company. At present there are many more jobs for engineers than there are engineering graduates to fill them.”
Michael Dawson, from Schrader Electronics, added: “Schrader Electronics currently employ over 150 graduates from a number of engineering backgrounds. There are marvellous career opportunities in Northern Ireland for engineers at all levels, but particularly for graduates.
“We believe that by awarding students for their academic success and hard work we help to motivated them during their studies in addition to offering them an insight into range of potential careers. As a business, we continue to forecast significant growth and we will need to continue to build up our highly skilled, well-educated workforce to meet our future targets for expansion.”
