A University of Ulster computing student has won a place on the prestigious Asidua Scholarship Programme.

Sean Carlin, a first-year student at Ulster’s Magee campus, secured a bursary of £1,000, a guaranteed industrial placement and a permanent position on graduation with the leading IT services company.

The £25,000 scholarship programme, which was launched in November 2008 in co-operation with the University of Ulster and QUB, aims to attract fresh talent into the growing Northern Ireland IT sector.

Speaking at an award ceremony for the winners Angela Canavan, Asidua’s Chief Operations Officer, said: “As a recognised Employer of Choice, Asidua are proud to invest in the future economic success of Northern Ireland through our dedicated scholarship programme aimed at students from local universities.  We are delighted to welcome this year’s winners and look forward to working with them in the coming months.”

Professor Liam Maguire, Head of School of Computing and Intelligent Systems at the University of Ulster added:  “I congratulate Sean on his success in securing this scholarship from Asidua which will not just provide financial support for his studies during the next four years but it will also provide him with the appropriate experience to develop and enhance his skills.”
